LÉO – In an impressive display of community effort, the Léo-Neboun section of the RN6 highway, linking Ouagadougou to Léo, was cleared of invasive vegetation on Saturday, April 20, 2024, greatly improving the road’s condition and safety.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the clearing operation was organized by Tewendé Isaac Sia, the High Commissioner of the Sissili province, and saw significant participation from provincial directors, department heads, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and local volunteers. The RN6 had become almost impassable, with overgrown vegetation posing a serious hazard to road users. In response, a broad coalition of provincial authorities, CSOs, and residents from nearby communities came together to address the issue.
Participants equipped with machetes, chainsaws, and other tools worked diligently to remove the obstructions, thereby facilitating smoother and safer vehicular movement. The High Commissioner lauded the spirit of cooperation and patriotism exhibited by all involved, aligning with the President of Faso’s call for active participation in national development efforts. The operation not only underscores the community’s commitment to improving local infrastructure but also highlights the strategic importance of the RN6 in contributing to the socio-economic development of the region.
Security for the event was robustly managed by the Forces of Defense and Security (FDS) and Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDP), who ensured a safe and calm environment for the volunteers, further exemplifying a successful civic initiative.
