Eldoret: The Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Digital Economy (MICDE), William Kabogo, has called on communicators to consider how their work can drive genuine action and contribute to national unity. This message was conveyed during the official opening ceremony of the 20th Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) Annual Summit, held in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
According to Kenya News Agency, the keynote address was delivered by Patricia Terer Ondeng, Secretary Public Communication, on behalf of CS Kabogo. He emphasized that the summit, which runs from 1st to 5th December and carries the theme 'Beyond Words: Authentic Communication that Shapes Tomorrow,' is designed to inspire bold thinking and a commitment to authentic communication. Kabogo highlighted the importance of aligning actions with words and maintaining credibility and integrity in communication, especially in an era where messages spread rapidly.
CS Kabogo acknowledged the responsibility of communicators in shaping narratives and guiding public understanding, particularly during uncertain times. He stressed the importance of trust in public communication, noting that it is the foundation of relationships and critical to national cohesion. The CS praised PRSK for its leadership and efforts in advancing the profession.
He also reaffirmed the government's commitment to using communication as a bridge between policy and public understanding. This includes several initiatives such as the National Communication Policy, the Government Communication Strategy 2024-2027, and the Public Relations and Communications Management Policy, which aim to enhance public communication standards.
Additionally, Kabogo mentioned the Public Relations and Communications Management Bill, which is in its final phase and aims to uphold professionalism and ethics in the field. He highlighted the impact of digital transformation on the information landscape and urged communicators to use technology responsibly while maintaining the integrity of their work.
CS Kabogo concluded by noting the crucial role of factual and accurate information in combating misinformation and stressed that communicators must act as guardians of truth in the digital age.
