Kaya: A public conference was held on October 24, 2024, in Kaya, capital of the Centre-North region, on the theme “Communication strategy in times of war, civic-mindedness and the need for engagement,” for local populations and internally displaced persons. This initiative aimed to engage the youth in the Centre-North region in effective communication strategies to aid the fight against terrorism.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the conference was organized under the auspices of His Majesty Naaba Sigri, King of Boussouma, and chaired by Colonel-Major Z. Blaise Ouédraogo, Governor of the Centre-North region. It was initiated by Issa Lagvaré, Chargé de mission at the Presidency of Faso, and his focal points at the Kaya multipurpose hall.
The event was co-hosted by Adama Amadé Siguiré, a professional writer and consultant, and Lianhoué Imhotep Bayala, a specialist in African literature. It brought together administrative, customary, and religious authorities, as well as leaders of civil society organi
zations and members of the citizen watch of the Centre-North region.
The organizers highlighted that the conference was a part of training young people in the region. “The theme is topical and aims to strengthen civic-mindedness among young people in our region,” said the mission officer at the Presidency. Adama Amadé Siguiré emphasized the existing efforts by young people in communication but noted the need to address certain gaps.
The conference served as an opportunity to “refocus them and, above all, to allow them to focus on what is essential,” as stated by Siguiré. The speakers stressed the importance of effective communication during wartime, focusing on civic-mindedness and patriotism.
Local authorities welcomed the initiative. Wendingoudi Fidèle Ouédraogo, a technical advisor representing the governor of the Centre-North region, encouraged participants to absorb the insights shared by the distinguished speakers.
