Narok: Narok County Commissioner Kipkech Lotiatia has addressed the primary causes of recent murder incidents in Narok County, citing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and alcoholism as the main factors. In a statement aimed at clarifying the security situation in the area, Lotiatia also sought to dispel fears about the county’s safety, which have been exacerbated by social media.
According to Kenya News Agency, Commissioner Lotiatia explained that over 90 percent of the murder cases reported in the last three months were related to GBV, alcoholism, infidelity, and disputes over romantic relationships. He emphasized that these were isolated cases and assured that local security forces had effectively managed the situations.
Lotiatia criticized the portrayal of Narok as insecure in social media, urging residents not to exaggerate security concerns to avoid deterring potential investors. He highlighted the swift actions taken by police in arresting suspicious individuals daily across various trading centers, reinf
orcing the presence and alertness of law enforcement in maintaining peace.
The commissioner also commented on the peace restoration in the Likia area, at the contentious border between Narok and Nakuru counties. He encouraged the local community to focus on agricultural activities, leveraging the area’s fertile land, to foster development rather than engaging in conflicts.
Furthermore, Lotiatia addressed the problematic behavior of residents who barricade major highways following accidents. He called for more constructive ways to handle such incidents without disrupting the rights of other road users. Instances at Ntulele trading center along the Narok-Maai Mahiu highway and Kisiriri area along the Narok-Mau Road were specifically mentioned as areas where road blockades have been a significant issue.
The county commissioner’s remarks were part of a broader statement during celebrations attended by Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu, Narok North Member of Parliament Agnes Pareyio, Narok County Executive Members,
and several Members of the County Assembly.
