Fada N’Gourma, The governor of the Eastern region, Colonel Hubert Yaméogo, asserted confidence in the imminent victory against terrorism on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, urging those capable to join the ranks of the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland (VDPs) to hasten the achievement of this goal. This statement was made during the 63rd anniversary of the National Armed Forces (FAN) celebrated in Fada N’Gourma, in the city of Yendabili.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this year’s commemoration was themed “Defense Forces, Internal Security Forces, Defense Forces for the Homeland, together for the pursuit of the reconquest of our national territory.” Burkina Faso is currently navigating through its eighth year of an imposed war, rendering the context of the celebration particularly significant.

Lieutenant-Colonel Éric Dabiré, commander of the 6th military region, highlighted the importance of the FAN anniversary for the soldiers, stating that it serves as an opportunity to express gratitude towards the highest authorities and supporters, aiming to improve working conditions for the soldiers, foster cohesion, and promote unity among the Armed Forces. Additionally, it is a moment to renew commitments with the people and superiors, continuing the mission of the Armed Forces.

During the ceremony, nine soldiers were honored with military medals, recognizing their dedication to the nation, professional value, and quality of service. Captain Aboubakar Coulbaly, commander of the 34th Inter-Army Regiment (RIA) and recipient of a military medal, expressed his honor in receiving this distinction. He dedicated the medal to all FDS and VDP members, interpreting it as a call for increased commitment and diligence.

Colonel Hubert Yaméogo delivered a compelling message to veterans and former soldiers, stating, “Don’t give up. Don’t find an alibi to stay behind. Those who can accompany, come, the door of the VDP is open to you. We still need you. Victory is no longer far away.”
