CODESUR Members Receive Training on Disaster Risk Management in Boulsa

Ouagadougou: Members of the Boulsa Departmental Council for Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation (CODESUR) attended a training session on disaster risk prevention and management from October 21 to 23, 2025. This session, facilitated by the NGO Welthungerhilfe (WHH), is part of the Teel Taaba project's implementation. The opening ceremony was presided over by Richard Godo, the first vice-president of the special delegation of the municipality.

According to Burkina Information Agency, participants from various socio-professional backgrounds in the commune of Boulsa exchanged views on the causes and factors contributing to disasters and their humanitarian impacts over the three-day session. They discussed the community early warning system's functioning, identifying endogenous actions for prevention, preparedness, response, and rehabilitation.

The training also addressed the pressure exerted by populations, especially internally displaced persons (IDPs), on natural resources like firewood. Theophile Bassole, the representative of the NGO WHH, explained that the project aims to strengthen social cohesion through inclusive management of natural resources and conflict prevention using non-violent methods.

The project, titled "Promoting the resilience and socio-economic integration of vulnerable populations in the provinces of Kouritenga and Namentenga," is being implemented by the Zood Nooma Association for Development (AZND) in the communes of Boulsa and Dargo. The project spans 50 months, from November 1, 2024, to December 31, 2028.

This initiative particularly aims to facilitate developing municipal contingency plans for Boulsa and Dargo, enabling concerted and effective management of disaster risks. At the session's conclusion, Mr. Bassole expressed satisfaction with the training's progress and commended the participants for their commitment and achievements.

The Baloum Naaba, representing the chief of Boulsa, expressed gratitude for the project's intervention in Namentenga. Richard Godo, accompanied by the provincial director in charge of Humanitarian Action, Noregma Ouedraogo, wished the project "fair winds."
