CODEC-Ouahigouya Trains Farmers in Sabcé on Advanced Agricultural Practices

SABCÉ, BAM — Over sixty residents of Sabcé, primarily women, participated in a training workshop organized by the Diocesan Savings and Credit Cooperative of Ouahigouya (CODEC-Ouahigouya) from August 26 to 28, 2024. The training focused on innovative agricultural techniques aimed at boosting production within the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Director General of CODEC-Ouahigouya, the training provided education on new production methods for cereals and legumes, as well as insights into the value chain approach. “This training aims to enhance agricultural productivity by introducing advanced production techniques, proper selection of inputs, and methods for conserving harvests and finding market opportunities,” he stated. The initiative is part of a larger project titled “Financing the agricultural sector to reduce poverty in the North-Central region of Burkina Faso,” supported by the “Africa Trade and Investment” program and co-financed by USAID and Feed the Future.

Participants from various villages within Sabcé, including Nôh, Zandkom, and Bissa Sabcé, expressed satisfaction with the skills they acquired. Pascaline Sanfo, representing the trainees, highlighted the practical knowledge gained about safe agricultural practices and post-harvest preservation. “The training was very enlightening, and we are grateful to CODEC-Ouahigouya and its partners. We learned valuable lessons about handling pesticides and preserving our produce, which we plan to share with others in our community,” said Sanfo.

This session marks the fourth such training by CODEC-Ouahigouya, which also focuses on financing microprojects, providing drought risk insurance, and assisting in the formalization of agricultural businesses. CODEC-Ouahigouya, established under the leadership of Monsignor Justin Kientega in 2008, serves the North and Centre-North regions with five operational branches.
