Classroom Collapse Averted Disaster in Sanguié as Students and Teachers Escape Unhurt

Kordié – A severe storm on June 3, 2024, led to the destruction of a classroom at School C in Kordié, Sanguié. The incident occurred just as students and teachers were making final preparations for the upcoming CEP exam, narrowly avoiding a potential disaster.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Primary, and Non-Formal Education in the Center-West, Abylaicé Rouamba, approximately forty individuals were inside the building when the storm struck. The wind was strong enough to tear apart the structure and crumple the roof. Despite the severity of the destruction, all occupants emerged without injury.

The community quickly rallied to address the immediate challenges posed by the classroom’s destruction, securing alternative accommodations and examination spaces for the affected students in time for the CEP exam scheduled the following day.

On June 6, Rouamba visited Kordié to assess the damage and support the local education community. During his visit, he expressed his relief that no injuries had occurred and commended the resilience and quick action of the educators and local officials. “The incident could have led to a severe crisis, but thanks to the prompt and effective response of all involved, the situation was resolved, allowing the CEP exam to proceed smoothly,” Rouamba stated.

The visit concluded with Rouamba and his team meeting with Léopold Segda, the president of the special delegation of the commune, and Servais Dominique Toné, the head of the education district, reflecting a united and resilient community response.
