NAMENTENGA: In a bid to foster social cohesion and improve civilian-military relations, the commune of Dargo hosted a series of leisure and sports activities on December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025. These events aimed to dismantle barriers between civilians and military personnel, furthering efforts to combat terrorism effectively. Highlighted by a football match, the Combat Forces’ team narrowly defeated the civilian team with a score of one goal to zero.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the events extended beyond football to include games such as Aztec, checkers, war©, p©tanque, ludo, and scrabble, where participants competed to crown champions. Notably, a football match saw the husbands’ team fall to their wives, who won decisively with two goals to zero. Another highlight was the Volunteers for the Defense of the Fatherland (VDP) team, comprising members from military units Fant´me, Gu©pard, and Glouton, securing a victory over the civilian team by one goal to zero.
Prior to the competitions, High Commissioner Adama Conseiga engaged in informal discussions with community leaders, accompanied by provincial directors and service heads. During these discussions, the “Dargolais” community expressed gratitude to the military units for their defense against threats and requested support in food supply, resettlement of displaced populations from four villages, and restoration of communications networks.
Military unit leaders took the opportunity to conduct awareness sessions on sexual and reproductive health before concluding the day with a popular ball. As the clock struck midnight, marking the arrival of 2025, dancers paused to exchange wishes for health, peace, success, and happiness.
The High Commissioner and his delegation also visited military assembly points in Dargo and Boko, offering encouragement to forces engaged in reclaiming national territory. In a gesture of solidarity and support, Namentenga Province’s Governor, Adama Conseiga, extended his best wishes to the combat forces on the battlefield.
