Mbanza Kongo: Civil society members in the municipality of Mbanza Kongo, located in Angola's Zaire province, have expressed their desire for heightened US investments in the region. They view the recent visit by US President Joe Biden as a significant milestone in the bilateral cooperation between Angola and the United States, marking a "peak" in their diplomatic relations. According to Angola Press News Agency, the community leaders are optimistic that this visit will further solidify cooperation in various fields, including diplomatic, economic, and social sectors. Economist António Félix Kialungila emphasized that strengthened relations with the United States, the world's largest economy, present promising opportunities for Angola's development across multiple sectors. Kialungila noted that Angola's diplomatic role as a mediator in the ongoing conflict between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda is likely to be bolstered. Additionally, he highlighted the significance of US investments in th e Lobito Corridor, which upon completion, could transform Angola into a southern African hub by linking Zambia, Tanzania, and the DRC via rail. The visit marks the first time a sitting US president has traveled to Angola, which Kialungila believes will encourage American businesses to diversify their investments beyond the oil sector. He remarked, "Before, US investment was more focused on the oil sector, but today we are seeing a different picture." Lawyer Daniel Tati echoed this sentiment, crediting the peak in bilateral cooperation to the efforts of Angolan diplomacy and the strategic vision of President João Lourenço. Tati suggested that President Biden's visit would enhance Angola's international image and potentially attract more tourists. He urged local entrepreneurs to seize the opportunities presented by this historic visit, noting that President Biden was accompanied by a delegation of American businessmen.
