Trans Nzoia: Trans Nzoia County Commissioner Gideon Oyagi has urged government employees to work with synergy in a bid to ensure seamless implementation of government programmes. Speaking during a team-building exercise on the slopes of Mt. Elgon, which brought together heads of departments, Oyagi emphasized the importance of a closer working relationship among government staff as an essential ingredient towards improved service delivery.
According to Kenya News Agency, Oyagi highlighted the need for the heads of departments to embrace a multi-agency approach in the implementation of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He asserted that meaningful results will only be achieved if government employees are ready to work as a unit. ‘There is need to develop partnerships and close networks amongst ourselves if we have to deliver on the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. There’s no way you can deliver if you decide to go alone,’ he stated.
Oyagi advised national government employees to take advantage of in-service training opportunities that have been made available. He noted that these courses will not only sharpen and equip officers with new skills and knowledge necessary for implementing the BETA but will also enhance service delivery. ‘The government has made clear its intention to ensure that employees are equipped with skills and knowledge necessary in-service delivery. It is for this reason many in-service training programmes have been made available. Therefore, it is upon us to take advantage of these opportunities,’ he challenged.
He also cautioned against alcohol and drugs addiction, reminding the employees that such vices not only compromise service delivery but also affect the health of the individuals involved in the long run. However, Oyagi revealed that no officers in Trans Nzoia County have been adversely involved in such vices, a trend he encouraged to be strongly cultivated.
