Koudougou: Faced with an increase in traffic violations among schoolchildren, the Koudougou municipal police took the initiative to organize an awareness conference on Wednesday on the basic rules of road safety at the Hamandja high school, the AIB noted.
According to Burkina Information Agency, more than 100 students received valuable advice from the municipal police director, Patrice Bonkoungou. Several key topics were covered, ranging from proper behavior when leaving home for school, to specific intersection hazards, and safe road crossing techniques. Basic rules such as the importance of walking on sidewalks, looking both ways before crossing, and obeying traffic signs were explained in detail. Participants were also made aware of good and bad road behavior. A reading of some common road signs helped reinforce their understanding.
The students left the meeting visibly satisfied and aware of the imperative need to scrupulously respect the highway code. “I finally understood why it’s so important not to run across the street,” confided Awa, a 5th-grade student.
The school’s director, Fouad Joumai, thanked Patrice Bonkoungou for this crucial initiative. According to him, this action will significantly contribute to raising collective awareness of the issues surrounding the highway code.
He recalled that many students had recently been punished by the police for not respecting the rules, with the punishment being the cleaning of gutters along the roads.
Please note that a round will be undertaken in other establishments that wish to do so in order to reach a larger number of students.
