Ouagadougou - A citizen's attempt to contribute to Burkina Faso's peace effort was thwarted by a lack of necessary administrative paperwork, the Sidwaya daily reported on Wednesday.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the incident occurred last Friday at a tax service office in Ouagadougou where the citizen, representing an associative structure, intended to make a cash donation.

The source, Sidwaya, detailed that the citizen arrived around 2 p.m. with the intention to deposit funds specifically earmarked for combating terrorism. However, despite the availability of two dedicated counters for such contributions, the necessary payment slips were not available, preventing the transaction. Consequently, the citizen had to leave with the funds, which were intended to support the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland and help in acquiring military equipment.

The Burkina Faso government has been actively soliciting public donations to fund defense efforts against terrorism. This initiative includes acquiring military equipment and supporting the nation's volunteer defense force. The failure to accept the citizen's contribution highlights a potential gap in the administrative efficiency required to manage such civic-minded donations effectively.
