Citizen Empowers Over 100 Women with First Aid Skills in Burkina Faso

Ouagadougou: In a significant initiative coinciding with International Women's Day, Mira Mariam Zoungrana/Ouedraogo has successfully trained over 100 women in first aid techniques. This effort, conducted on Saturday, aims to equip women with the necessary skills to save lives in their communities and workplaces.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Ms. Zoungrana was motivated to organize this training after a tragic incident involving a client who lost a child due to choking. The session, held in Ouaga 2000, featured first responders who shared the basic principles of first aid with the participants. Ms. Zoungrana emphasized that a lack of first aid knowledge contributes to many deaths in Burkina Faso.

The training attracted women from various neighborhoods, including participants who traveled from as far as Pouytenga. Ms. Zoungrana expressed her satisfaction with the event, noting that each woman left equipped with the ability to assist those in danger. She encouraged the participants to become proactive agents of relief in their communities.

Beyond first aid, the training also included awareness sessions on violence against women, urging men to protect and cherish their partners. First aid instructor Abdouramane Sanfo provided modules on first aid principles, emphasizing victim safety, alerting emergency services, and immediate care procedures. Critical situations, such as handling injuries and suffocation, were also covered.

Participant Saran Ouattara/N'Diaye praised the initiative, expressing confidence that the training would enable her to assist those in need until professional help arrives. "Rescuing means saving lives. It also means having the right reflexes in the face of a dangerous situation," she concluded.
