OUAGADOUGOU—The association Citizen Action for Endogenous Development (ACDE) initiated a local reforestation effort in the Pazani district of Ouagadougou on Thursday, planting around 50 trees in front of identified homes as part of their “My Green City” initiative.
According to Burkina Information Agency, president of ACDE, the “My Green City” initiative aims to plant at least one tree in front of each home in Burkina Faso’s cities. Sawadogo noted that maintaining trees in large public spaces has proven challenging, leading to less visible results from previous reforestation campaigns. Consequently, ACDE opted for a more localized approach by planting trees directly in front of homes.
The association engages with residents to select suitable trees and provides a maintenance guide before planting. For this first edition of the initiative, the association selected mango and neem trees for reforestation efforts in Pazani. ACDE plans to expand the initiative to include more tree species in other districts of Ouagadougou and across the country in future editions.
Citizen Action for Endogenous Development, founded in 2023, is dedicated to promoting endogenous development in Burkina Faso, according to its president.
