Addis Ababa: Participants of the Africa Regional Meeting of the Committee of Intelligence and Security Services of Africa (CISSA) visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
According to Ethiopian News Agency, the East Africa Regional Meeting of CISSA was held in Addis Ababa, with intelligence and security officials and representatives from various countries in attendance. Following the meeting, the delegates visited GERD, where they were provided with an extensive update on the progress of the dam’s construction and its current operational status.
Tazer Gebre-Egziabher, Deputy Director General of Ethiopia’s National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), highlighted that GERD is a flagship project that is set to reshape the geopolitical landscape of the region and has now reached its final stage. The visit played a crucial role in dispelling misinformation about GERD, as stated by the Deputy Director General, and also conveyed a strong message that African countries can achieve mega projects like GERD when they stand united.
One of the delegates, Ter Tongyik Majok, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Peace, Development and Security Studies at the University of Juba, remarked that the benefits of this major project extend to the entire region. He noted the dam’s significance in terms of regional integrations and extended his congratulations to the Ethiopian government and its people for their achievements. Professor Majok observed that the water is sufficient and flowing downstream, dismissing fears from neighboring countries regarding the water flow.
