Uriri: The Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church has issued a strong critique of parents who have neglected their fundamental role in providing guidance, counseling, and instilling high moral standards in their children. Pastor Ken Adiang’, speaking during a family life lesson at the Voice of Hope SDA Church in Uriri Sub-County, expressed concern over the diminishing time parents spend with their children, which he believes is crucial for shaping them into responsible individuals.

According to Kenya News Agency, Pastor Adiang’ voiced his concerns regarding the prevalent ‘I Don’t Care’ attitude among many parents, particularly towards Millennials and Generation Z. He highlighted how this neglect has left the youth vulnerable to the negative influences of mass media. The pastor pointed out that social media, television, video, and magazines have regrettably taken over the parental role, leading to the imparting of undesirable morals and anti-social tendencies.

Pastor Adiang’ emphasized the severe impact on girls, who are more susceptible to issues such as early pregnancy, early marriage, and other societal violences. He urged parents to ensure that girls receive the same educational opportunities as boys, enabling them to achieve professional academic levels and compete equally with their male peers.

In his message to the family life class, Pastor Adiang’ called for a collective effort to discourage children from engaging in immoral behaviors and illicit sexual relationships, which pose risks of sexually transmitted diseases and early pregnancies. He stressed the importance of using the Bible as a tool for instilling good morals and providing spiritual nourishment to children.

Furthermore, Pastor Adiang’ appealed to both political and religious leaders in the region to actively participate in combating immorality among the youth, emphasizing its significance for their development and future well-being.
