Windhoek: Members of the World Mission Society Church of God volunteered to donate blood at the Blood Transfusion Service of Namibia (NamBTS) on Monday as part of the church’s worldwide blood donation campaign.
According to Namibia Press Agency, about 50 followers of the South Korean-based church participated in the blood donation event at the NamBTS offices in Windhoek. This initiative is part of the church’s ‘Worldwide Blood Drive to Give Life Through the Love of the Passover’ campaign. A volunteer at the church’s Windhoek branch, Johannes Kawali, highlighted that the event served as a positive example of selflessness and sacrifice.
The blood donation drive is occurring in several countries during May, including South Africa, the United States, Canada, Malaysia, Taiwan, India, Sri Lanka, and El Salvador. The campaign, which started in South Korea in 2005, has been held 1,553 times in 64 countries with 286,465 participants as of March this year.
Kawali mentioned a target of 100 blood donors during the campaign in Namibia, which also extends to Oshakati in the Oshana Region. NamBTS spokesperson Frieda Vatileni-Asino noted that the donation aligns with the service’s Red Saturday Campaigns, which aim to collect 250 bags at four locations nationwide to ensure an adequate blood supply, particularly during public holidays. She also encouraged Namibians to donate blood regularly.
