Christian Churches’ Council Calls for Peace Preservation in Angola


Huambo: The Christian Churches’ Council in Angola, through its secretary in Huambo province, Pastor Euclides dos Santos, has called on Angolans to engage in healthy dialogue and avoid inflammatory rhetoric to maintain the nation’s peace. This appeal comes as the country approaches the 24th anniversary of Peace and National Reconciliation, celebrated on April 4th.



According to Angola Press News Agency, Pastor Euclides dos Santos emphasized the importance of fostering harmony, brotherhood, love, and unity in public speeches. He warned against rhetoric that incites hate, which could jeopardize the social and economic progress achieved in Angola. He stressed the need for a united and healthy society where all citizens feel free and secure.



In light of the upcoming elections, he urged a focus on educating young people to resist misleading speeches and demonstrations that lack legal foundation and offer false employment promises. He advocated for politicians to adopt a tolerant approach, avoiding the painful memories of past conflicts and instead focusing on building a better future for Angola.



Pastor dos Santos highlighted the importance of preserving the gains of peace, such as safeguarding public infrastructure like roads, power stations, and railways, which are crucial for national development. He praised the achievements of the past 24 years, including infrastructure improvements, expansions in healthcare and education, and advancements in technology and social services.



April 4th marks Peace and National Reconciliation Day in Angola, commemorating the end of the armed conflict in 2002 and the beginning of national development and reconciliation efforts.
