Cholera Outbreak Sees 202 New Cases in Angola

Luanda: A total of 202 new cases of cholera were registered in the last 24 hours across several provinces in Angola, including Benguela, Luanda, Cuanza-Norte, Malanje, Bengo, Namibe, Hu­la, Cuanza-Sul, and Icolo and Bengo. This marks a significant development in the ongoing health crisis affecting the country.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Information Bulletin of the Ministry of Health (MINSA), which provides daily updates on cholera statistics, also reported 3 deaths within the same 24-hour period, with 2 occurring in Cuanza-Norte and 1 in Malanje. The report further highlights that 171 people were discharged from medical facilities, yet 1,287 patients remain hospitalized due to the outbreak.

Since the onset of the cholera outbreak in the first week of January, Angola has recorded a cumulative total of 12,802 cases. The death toll currently stands at 478, underscoring the severity of the situation and the challenges faced by health authorities in containing the disease.
