Cholera Outbreak: Angola Registers 132 Cases in 24 Hours

Luanda: A total of 132 new cases of cholera were registered in the last 24 hours in the provinces of Luanda, Cuanza-Norte, Bengo, Benguela, Malanje, Zaire, Cabinda, Icolo and Bengo, and Lunda-Sul.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) Information Bulletin, which updates the cholera numbers in the country, reported 7 deaths in the last 24 hours, with 3 in Cuanza-Norte, 2 in Bengo, and 1 each in Zaire and Luanda.

The document outlined that out of the 132 reported cases, 35 originated from Luanda, 32 from Cuanza-Norte, 27 from Bengo, 13 from Benguela, 9 from Malanje, 8 from Zaire, 4 from Cabinda, 3 from Icolo and Bengo, and a single case in Lunda Sul.

During the last 24 hours, 60 patients were discharged from hospitals, while 253 remain hospitalized. Since the outbreak's onset in January, a cumulative total of 8,543 cases have been reported. Of these, 4,143 were in Luanda, 2,485 in Bengo, 813 in Icolo and Bengo, 490 in Cuanza-Norte, 222 in Benguela, 211 in Malanje, 52 in Zaire, 41 in Cabinda, 36 in Cuanza-Sul, 23 in Huambo, 15 in U­ge, 7 in Hu­la, 2 in Bi©, while Cunene and Cubango registered one each.

To date, 329 casualties have been recorded, with 154 in Luanda, 95 in Bengo, 38 in Cuanza-Norte, 21 in Icolo and Bengo, 9 in Benguela, 6 in Malanje, 3 in Cuanza-Sul, 2 in Zaire, and 1 in Cabinda.
