Cholera Outbreak – Angola Registers 104 New Cases

Luanda: A total of 104 new cases of cholera were registered, in the last 24 hours, in the provinces of Luanda, Bengo, Icolo and Bengo, Cuanza-Sul, and Huíla. The cases were confirmed by the data processing center of the Public Health Epidemiological Surveillance System of the national Directorate. According to Angola Press News Agency, a Ministry of Health (MINSA) newsletter, which updates daily the cholera incidence data in Angola, reported 7 deaths, with 3 in Icolo and Bengo, and 2 each in Luanda and Bengo. Of the 104 new cases, 44 are from Bengo, 41 from Luanda, 17 from Icolo and Bengo, and 1 each from Cuanza-Sul and Huíla. According to MINSA's report, 81 people were discharged during the same period. Currently, 322 patients remain hospitalized across the country. Furthermore, 925,573 people have been vaccinated, achieving 86% coverage of the target population. Out of these, 626,079 were in Luanda, 228,058 in Icolo and Bengo, and 71,436 in Bengo. Since the beginning of the outbreak in the first week of January 2025, a cumulative total of 3,147 cases have been reported. This includes 1,542 in Luanda, 1,163 in Bengo, 407 in Icolo and Bengo, 10 in Cuanza-Sul, 6 in Huambo and Huíla, 5 in Zaire and Malanje, 2 in Cuanza-Norte, and a single case in Cunene. In total, 108 deaths have occurred, with 48 in Luanda, 43 in Bengo, 15 in Icolo and Bengo, and 2 in Cuanza-Sul.
