Chinese Vice President and Indian Foreign Minister Discuss Bilateral Relations

Beijing: Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on Monday met with Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Beijing. Han highlighted the significance of a successful meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last October in Kazan, which has set China-India relations on a new trajectory.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Han emphasized the importance of China and India, as major developing countries and key members of the Global South, working together as partners to promote mutual success. He urged both nations to implement the strategic consensus reached by their leaders, adhere to high-level guidance, and advance pragmatic cooperation. Han also stressed the need for both countries to respect each other's concerns and promote the sustained, healthy, and stable development of bilateral relations.

Jaishankar noted that the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Xi in Kazan has positively influenced India-China relations, which have shown steady improvement. He affirmed India's readiness to follow the leaders' consensus to maintain bilateral momentum, enhance mutually beneficial cooperation, and improve communication and coordination within multilateral frameworks.

Additionally, Jaishankar expressed India's support for China in hosting the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit this year as the rotating chair.
