Chinese Stocks Edge Upward with Cement and Building Materials Leading Gains

Shanghai: Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.72 percent to 3,559.79 points. The Shenzhen Component Index also saw an increase, closing 0.86 percent higher at 11,007.49 points.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the combined turnover of these two indices reached 1.7 trillion yuan, approximately 237.7 billion U.S. dollars, reflecting an increase from the previous trading day's 1.57 trillion yuan. Stocks in the cement and building materials sectors led the gains, while those in the cross-border payment and banking sectors faced significant losses.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's Nasdaq-style board for growth enterprises, experienced a rise of 0.87 percent, closing at 2,296.88 points.
