Beijing—Chinese Premier Li Qiang urged for an expedited process in free trade agreement negotiations with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) during a meeting with GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, emphasizing the need to align development strategies for mutual benefit.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Premier Li highlighted the significant role of the GCC as a dynamic regional organization contributing to peace and development in the Middle East. He remarked on the longstanding, stable development of relations between China and the GCC, which have been particularly robust over the past 40 years. These relations took a strategic leap forward following the first China-GCC Summit in 2022, where President Xi Jinping and GCC leaders crafted a comprehensive plan for practical cooperation.
Li articulated China’s readiness to enhance communication and coordination with the GCC nations, aiming to implement summit outcomes, solidify political ties, and further mutual interests through deeper cooperation. The Premier also expressed China’s commitment to supporting regional peace through dialogue and consultation and emphasized policy coordination through the China-GCC Strategic Dialogue.
Echoing Premier Li’s sentiments, Albudaiwi lauded the success of the first China-GCC Summit as a foundational moment for the two sides. He reaffirmed the GCC’s dedication to deepening dialogue, enhancing cooperation in energy and innovation sectors, and fostering stronger cultural ties. Albudaiwi expressed hope for a timely conclusion to the FTA negotiations, aiming to elevate China-GCC relations to new heights.
Albudaiwi also appreciated China’s balanced stance on Middle Eastern issues, including the Palestinian conflict, noting China’s support for regional peace and stability.
