MUSCAT—A leading Chinese opera troupe captivated audiences this weekend with performances of the Italian opera "Un Ballo in Maschera" at the Royal Opera House Muscat, underlining a robust cultural exchange between China and Oman.
According to Namibia Press Agency, the National Center for the Performing Arts of China (NCPA), which produced the opera, staged the show on Thursday and Saturday, drawing a combined audience of around 2,000 people. Additionally, the troupe hosted a "Chinese Night" concert on Friday, presenting traditional Chinese melodies to local residents.
Wang Ning, president of the NCPA, stated that these events underscore the center's dedication to fostering cultural ties through opera and music. Umberto Fanni, general manager of the Royal Opera House Muscat, emphasized the importance of the performances, noting they serve as a conduit for artistic collaboration and unity among diverse cultures and regions.
"Un Ballo in Maschera," or "A Masked Ball," is a three-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi that first premiered in 1859. The opera features complex narratives of love, betrayal, and political intrigue, set against a backdrop of a Swedish royal court.
The NCPA, established in 2007 and located in Beijing, is renowned globally for its unique architecture and commitment to presenting high-caliber artistic productions. This engagement in Oman highlights its role in international cultural diplomacy and its continuing collaboration with global artists.
