ADDIS ABABA — During a recent visit to Friendship Square in Addis Ababa, journalists from China’s People’s Daily praised the site as a catalyst for boosting Ethiopia’s tourism sector. Their visit is part of a broader initiative to strengthen media cooperation between Ethiopia and China.
According to Ethiopian News Agency, Friendship Square, with its picturesque artificial lake, vibrant flower displays, and nighttime water fountain lights, exceeded her expectations and she believes it will play a significant role in attracting tourists to Ethiopia. Cui expressed hope that more Chinese citizens would visit Ethiopia, highlighting Friendship Square as a must-see destination that symbolizes the friendship between the two nations.
Cui Qi emphasized the importance of Ethiopia as a partner in promoting sustainable and green development, and in enhancing tourism that supports the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature. Senior editor Ren Yan also praised the aesthetic and comfort of Friendship Square, predicting it will become a popular destination for Chinese tourists, especially given the increased flight connections between the two countries.
Friendship Square Park, initiated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and constructed by China Communications Construction Company, features a variety of amenities including a playground, an amusement park, and a fitness center. It serves as a green space for both locals and tourists, offering numerous outdoor meeting and event spaces as well as leisure activities, making it an integral part of Addis Ababa’s tourism and community life.
