NEW YORK — During a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with his Cuban counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, affirming the special status Cuba holds in China’s foreign policy framework.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Wang Yi emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government to sustain and enhance the relations between China and Cuba. He expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Cuba to foster the long-term development of their bilateral community with a shared future. Wang highlighted the mutual support between China and Cuba on the international stage, particularly in defending principles such as non-interference in internal affairs, promoting global fairness and justice, and protecting the interests of developing nations.
Furthermore, Wang reiterated China’s opposition to the U.S. blockade and sanctions against Cuba, pledging continued support for Cuba in maintaining its sovereignty and dignity. In response, Rodriguez expressed gratitude for China’s consistent support in Cuba’s economic and social development and its advocacy for Cuba’s legitimate rights on global platforms.
Rodriguez also confirmed Cuba’s support for the one-China principle and its opposition to the politicization of human rights as a means to interfere in China’s internal matters.
