Gwangju: China's 19-year-old archer Zhu Jingyi secured a silver medal at the 2025 World Archery Championships in Gwangju, marking China's only medal at the event. Zhu fell to South Korea's Kang Chae-young in the women's recurve final, concluding a notable debut performance.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Zhu began the championships with a strong performance, finishing second in the qualification round with 691 points, just one point shy of Tokyo Olympic champion An San of South Korea. Zhu's path to the final included a victory over Indonesia's Diananda Choirunisa, whom she defeated 6-4 in the semifinals. In the final match, Kang Chae-young emerged victorious with a 7-3 win to claim the gold medal.
China's other competitors, Huang Yuwei and Li Jiaman, were both eliminated by South Korea's An San, who went on to secure a bronze medal. Zhu's achievement makes her the third Chinese archer to reach the women's individual final at the World Championships, following in the footsteps of Ma Xiangjun, who won gold in 1987, and Xu Jing, who won silver in 2013.
As the event concluded, South Korea led the medal tally with two golds, one silver, and four bronzes. Mexico followed with two golds and one bronze, while Spain also claimed two golds. China and Brazil shared the 10th position in the rankings.
