BEIJING: China experienced its warmest year on record in 2024, with the average national temperature reaching unprecedented levels since the commencement of comprehensive meteorological records in 1961, the National Climate Center reported on Thursday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the average temperature in China for 2024 was recorded at 10.9 degrees Celsius. This marks an increase of 1.01 degrees Celsius above the annual average, surpassing the previous record of 10.71 degrees Celsius set in 2023. The rise in temperature was notable across various regions, with 19 provincial-level areas registering record-high temperatures, including major regions such as Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Henan, and Shaanxi.

The year also witnessed an increase in average precipitation, with the national figure standing at 697.7 mm, which is 9 percent higher than the annual average. These climatic shifts have raised concerns about the ongoing impact of climate change on the region.
