BEIJING — In light of the recent election indicating Shigeru Ishiba will become Japan’s next Prime Minister, China has expressed its hope for Japan to collaborate towards the sustained and stable development of bilateral relations.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian addressed the matter, stating, “We have noted the relevant election result. This is Japan’s internal affair and China has no comment on it.” Lin emphasized that fostering long-term, stable relations aligns with the fundamental interests of both nations and remains the only viable path forward. Lin also expressed hope that Japan would adhere to the principles and consensus established in the four political documents between the two countries, reflecting on history to pursue a peaceful development path.
Further, Lin articulated expectations for Japan to adopt an objective and correct understanding of China, advocating for a positive and rational policy towards China that would support the strategic relationship of mutual benefit comprehensively.
