China to Record 74 Million Railway Trips During Mid-Autumn Festival

BEIJING — China is poised for a substantial surge in railway travel with an anticipated 74 million trips during the five-day period surrounding the Mid-Autumn Festival, based on the latest figures released by authorities. This surge reflects the country’s significant seasonal mobility tied to one of its traditional festivals.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. provided the estimates, indicating that daily travel from September 14 to September 18 will average about 14.8 million passengers. The peak is expected on September 17, the start of the holiday, with approximately 16.8 million individuals traveling by rail. This heightened travel activity is attributed to the festival’s customs, which include family reunions and public festivities.

During this period, local railway sectors are preparing to manage the high volume of passengers, enhancing services to accommodate the increased flow of travelers heading to various tourist destinations and returning home. The Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated this year on September 17, is traditionally marked by gatherings to view the full moon and the consumption of mooncakes, symbolizing unity and prosperity.
