China Prepares for 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organization Presidency with Ambitious Agenda

BEIJING: China is intensifying its preparations for its upcoming rotating presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in 2025, with plans to host a summit aimed at fostering friendship, solidarity, and productive outcomes. The Chinese foreign ministry announced on Thursday that the country will oversee more than 40 institutional meetings during its tenure.



According to Namibia Press Agency, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning outlined the comprehensive agenda, which includes events centered on political parties, poverty reduction, sustainable development, and people-to-people exchanges. Additionally, China will host an investment and trade expo, a film festival, and various art activities as part of its presidency.



In conjunction with these preparations, China also revealed the emblem for its 2024-2025 SCO rotating presidency. The emblem incorporates elements of Chinese culture, such as bronzeware patterns, and bears the slogan “Upholding the Shanghai Spirit: SCO on the Move” in Chinese, Russian, and English. Mao emphasized China’s commitment to enhancing cooperation within the SCO across areas like politics, security, the economy, and culture. The spokesperson also highlighted China’s intention to strengthen the organization’s operations, foster a community with a shared future, and explore new possibilities for mutual development.
