Beijing: China consistently and resolutely opposes any form of official exchanges between countries having diplomatic relations with China and the Taiwan region, foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated during a regular press briefing on Friday. Lin was responding to a query regarding the visit to Europe by Lin Chia-lung, head of Taiwan's so-called foreign affairs authorities.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Lin Jian reiterated that Taiwan is a province of China and referred to Lin Chia-lung as a local foreign affairs official of China. Lin emphasized the principle of one China in the world, asserting that Taiwan remains an inalienable part of China's territory. The Taiwan question, Lin added, pertains directly to China's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Lin firmly stated that China opposes any form of official exchanges between countries that maintain diplomatic relations with China and the Taiwan region. He also expressed strong opposition to platforms that support the separatist activities of 'Taiwan independence' forces. To this end, China has expressed strong dissatisfaction and lodged solemn representations with the relevant European country involved in the visit.
Lin urged the European country in question to adhere to the one-China principle and to take effective measures to prevent the visit by 'Taiwan independence' separatist forces. He further warned the Taiwan authorities that pursuing 'Taiwan independence' is a dead end.
