Brussels: China is engaging in discussions with European countries regarding its potential involvement in a peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine, following the resolution of the ongoing conflict. This development was reported by the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, which cited sources from EU diplomatic circles.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Chinese diplomats have been making inquiries in Brussels to determine the feasibility and desirability of such a move from the EU’s perspective. This initiative indicates China’s interest in contributing to international peacekeeping efforts once the Ukrainian conflict concludes.

Despite these discussions, Russia has not engaged in talks about the possible participation of Chinese peacekeepers in the conflict’s resolution. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated in late February that the issue had not been addressed. Additionally, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov remarked on March 6 that Russia does not see a potential compromise for deploying European peacekeepers in Ukraine.

Earlier in March, media reports highlighted efforts by French President Emmanuel Macron and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer to form a “coalition of the willing,” comprising 37 countries ready to deploy peacekeepers in Ukraine and provide security guarantees to Kiev.

The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service had previously suggested that the West might deploy approximately 100,000 troops in Ukraine under the pretense of a peacekeeping mission, aimed at restoring Kiev’s combat capacities. Peskov emphasized that deploying foreign peacekeepers requires the consent of all parties involved in the conflict.
