Beijing: China is gearing up for a significant increase in railway travel during the summer, with an estimated 953 million railway passenger trips expected, as announced by the country’s railway operator. This surge in travel will commence on Tuesday, marking the start of the summer travel rush.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the projected number of railway passenger trips for this summer is 5.8 percent higher than the previous year, as reported by the China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. The summer travel period is traditionally one of the busiest times for China’s railway network, largely due to college students returning home and families embarking on vacations.

The summer travel rush will extend for 62 days, from July 1 to August 31. During this period, the railway operator anticipates an average of 15.37 million passenger trips daily. In response to the increased demand, railway authorities plan to add more train services, with the number of operating passenger trains expected to exceed 11,500 on a daily basis.
