China Enhances National Defense Education with Revised Law


BEIJING—In a significant legislative move, Chinese lawmakers have approved revisions to the National Defense Education Law, aiming to bolster defense awareness and preparedness among its citizens. The revised statute, passed during a session of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee, is set to be implemented starting September 21, 2024.



According to Namibia Press Agency, the newly amended law focuses on intensifying national defense education within educational institutions and expanding its reach throughout society. This revision marks a significant step in China’s efforts to strengthen its national defense capabilities by fostering greater awareness and participation among the populace.



Originally enacted in 2001 and previously amended in 2018, the Law on National Defense Education has been a cornerstone of China’s defense strategy, emphasizing the importance of defense knowledge and readiness as integral components of citizenship. The latest amendments further underscore the country’s commitment to ensuring that its citizens are well-prepared to support national defense initiatives.
