China Allocates Funds for Disaster Relief in Hainan and Guangdong

BEIJING — In response to the devastation caused by Super Typhoon Yagi, China has released 200 million yuan (approximately 28.2 million U.S. dollars) to aid disaster recovery efforts in Hainan and Guangdong provinces. This financial support from the central budget is aimed at repairing critical infrastructure and hastening the return to normalcy for the affected regions.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the National Development and Reform Commission stated that the allocated funds are designated for urgent infrastructure repairs. Key facilities such as roads, bridges, water conservancy systems, schools, and hospitals will be restored to mitigate the impact of the typhoon and support the affected communities in resuming their daily activities.

Super Typhoon Yagi, marking the 11th typhoon of the year, made landfalls in China on Friday, initially hitting Hainan before moving on to Guangdong. In the aftermath, China’s Ministry of Water Resources undertook a thorough assessment of the safety risks associated with small and medium-sized reservoirs, as well as the flood risks in small rivers and mountain torrents within these provinces.

To bolster these efforts, the ministry has also dispatched four working teams to guide flood prevention and relief efforts across Hainan, Guangdong, Guangxi, and Yunnan provinces, ensuring that measures are in place to protect against further damage and assist those already affected by the typhoon.
