Children’s Institute Reports Rise in Sexual Abuse Cases in Moxico

Luanda: The National Institute for Children (INAC) disclosed on Thursday that the province of Moxico has seen a rise in cases of sexual abuse against minors, with an increase of four incidents in 2025 compared to the same timeframe last year.

According to Angola Press News Agency, Elias Samuxito, who leads the provincial services of INAC, revealed that there were six reported cases of sexual abuse against minors during the specified period, marking a significant rise from 2024. These cases have been forwarded to the Public Prosecutor’s Office for further legal action.

Samuxito also highlighted that a total of 49 incidents of violence against children were documented in 2025. This figure reflects a decrease of 156 incidents from the same period the previous year. The prevalent forms of violence reported include 16 cases of paternity denial, 10 custody disputes, and three instances of family abandonment.

He emphasized that a major contributing factor to these occurrences is a weak culture of reporting, exacerbated by the blackmail and enticement faced by the victims.
