Chief of Gourcy Advocates for Traditional Values in Education During Buud-poussoum Ceremony

Zondoma: Chief Naaba Baongo of Gourcy received greetings from the royal family during the Buud-poussoum ceremony held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at the royal palace in Gourcy. In his message, he recommended incorporating culture into children's education.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the traditional New Year's greetings from the Warma family to Chief Naaba Baongo of Gourcy took place at the Gourcy Palace. This ceremony, normally reserved exclusively for family members, offers blessings and wishes for the Chief's health and longevity, while also presenting him with gifts. After remarks from the family patriarch, court dignitaries, and other influential figures, the Chief's message was a highlight.

Addressing his family, the Chief expressed satisfaction with the turnout and interest in this ritual that brings family members together. He reiterated the need to emphasize children's education, urging parents to respect traditional values passed down by their ancestors. "Today, we are experiencing certain difficulties because we have strayed from the path laid out by our elders in favor of Western civilization," the Chief emphasized. He underscored his commitment to rectifying this situation by establishing a traditional education center formerly known as "Keogo" in the Moore language.

In this regard, a fact-finding mission has reportedly visited the canton of Boussouma in the Koulse Region to learn from their example. Before concluding with wishes for health, harmony, peace, and prosperity for the community, the Chief of Gourcy condemned the increasingly widespread and uncontrolled sale of family land. "I urge all those who have embarked on this unfortunate path to reconsider their actions in the name of family unity," he emphasized, reiterating that these lands are not for sale. The holding of the Buud-poussoum precedes the grand Na-poussoum, which usually takes place in February each year.
