Charlene Ruto Rallies Youth for Gender-Based Violence Prevention Campaign

Vihiga: First Daughter Charlene Ruto, on Friday, paid a courtesy call on Vihiga Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo as part of her county tour advocating against gender-based violence (GBV).

According to Kenya News Agency, her campaign, under the slogan 'Tuko Sauti, Tuko Safe', is designed to empower young individuals to speak out and take action against GBV within their communities. During discussions at the Deputy Governor's office, Charlene emphasized the importance of amplifying the voices of young people often affected by or witnessing GBV but lacking platforms for expression.

Deputy Governor Kitiezo praised her efforts and confirmed the county's commitment to supporting initiatives addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). He encouraged collaboration with the Vihiga Students Network (VISNET) to sensitize students on GBV-related issues across the county. "Your work is important in shaping a society that is safe for our youth," Kitiezo stated, highlighting that partnerships with youth groups would help strengthen awareness and prevention efforts.

After the meeting, Charlene visited Kaimosi University, where she continued to promote the need for young people's active participation in ending GBV and creating safer spaces within educational institutions and communities. The First Daughter's visit marks a significant step in ongoing national efforts to involve youth in advocacy and social transformation.
