Central-West Delegation Provides Aid to Displaced Persons in Sissili

SISSILI — The special regional delegation of the Center-West provided significant aid in the form of food and clothing to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sissili province on Saturday, July 13, 2024. The aid distribution ceremony was held to support IDPs facing hardships in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, President of the General Social and Cultural Affairs Commission of the Special Regional Delegation of the Center-West (CAGSC/DSR-CO), the effort to gather food and non-food items has been ongoing since 2022, driven by partnerships and community goodwill. The delivered aid included 2.5 tons of rice, 95 cans of oil, 17 boxes of soap, and assorted second-hand clothes for men, women, and children, addressing the immediate needs of the displaced populations.

The ceremony, chaired by the High Commissioner of Sissili province, Tewindé Isaac Sia, saw various regional dignitaries in attendance, emphasizing the community’s commitment to supporting its most vulnerable members. The High Commissioner lauded the timing and impact of the donation, urging more entities and individuals to assist the IDPs throughout the Center-West region.

Additionally, the event also featured a donation of medical equipment to the local Medical Center with Surgical Branch (CMA) in Léo, further supporting the community’s health needs. The day concluded with the inauguration of a refurbished sports platform at the Léo Youth and Culture Center, marking the prelude to the final of the first edition of the Sissili High Commissioner’s Cup.
