Central Bank of Angola Reaffirms Legality of 2012 Series Coins

Luanda: The National Bank of Angola (BNA) has announced that the eight denominations of metal coins from the 2012 series will remain in circulation, covering values from 0.50 cents to 200 kwanzas. The Central Bank emphasized that these coins are still considered legal tender and must be accepted by all economic agents in commercial exchanges throughout the country.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the BNA’s statement serves as a reminder following reports of lower-value coins being rejected in informal market transactions. The Central Bank reiterated that under Article 470 of the Penal Code, unjustifiably rejecting these coins can lead to fines ranging from 30 to 180 days. The BNA urged all citizens, particularly economic agents, to adhere strictly to the law.

The 2012 series coins include denominations of 0.50, Kz 1.00, Kz 5.00, Kz 10.00, Kz 20.00, Kz 50.00, Kz 100.00, and Kz 200.00. The BNA’s assurance aims to reinforce the validity of these coins in all forms of commercial transactions and to prevent further issues of non-acceptance in the marketplace.
