Center-North Region Forms Civic Coordination to Back Transition in Burkina Faso


KAYA – On Saturday, March 23, 2024, the Center-North region of Burkina Faso announced the establishment of a new regional coordination body aimed at supporting the nation’s transition process. The press conference held in Kaya introduced the Regional Coordination of Citizen Movements for the Development of the Center-North (CRMCD-CN), a collective that encompasses around forty associations and movements as per the declaration by coordinator Zakaria Sana, also known as Santé.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the CRMCD-CN was conceived in February 2024 to aid the execution of the country’s transition agenda and to bolster the initiatives led by the Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, particularly in territory reclamation and nation rebuilding. The formation and objectives of this coordination were detailed during the meeting at the Center-North regional youth council room, highlighting its role in the current political landscape of Burkina Faso.



The vice-coordinator, Abdoul Aziz, outlined the CRMCD-CN’s vision as a platform for collaboration among various groups, striving for concerted action in support of the transitional government and Captain Traoré’s leadership. Wendsongdo Sawadogo, the secretary in charge of information, emphasized the coordination’s commitment to civic monitoring, public mobilization, and raising awareness to combat terrorism.



Further underscoring the importance of inclusive participation, Djarata Ouédraogo, the deputy secretary-general, called for enhanced women’s involvement in civic duties and educational endeavors. The CRMCD-CN’s agenda includes forthcoming activities in Boulsa and Kongoussi, aiming to extend its influence and engagement across the region.
