Otavi: The Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) has revealed the identity of the technician who was allegedly electrocuted Thursday night while on duty at a farm between Otavi and Tsumeb. Cenored spokesperson, Chali Matengu, informed Nampa on Tuesday the deceased has been identified as 42-year-old Desmond Ujaha, who was based in Otjiwarongo.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Matengu said a 54-year-old technician from Outjo who worked alongside Ujaha remains hospitalised at a medical centre in Windhoek after sustaining burn injuries in the incident. Matengu also stated that four Cenored technical staff members were working on a reticulation line between Otavi and Tsumeb when the incident occurred.

The other two employees were treated and discharged from a private hospital in Tsumeb Thursday night. Matengu described Ujaha as a dedicated employee, trusted teammate, and committed professional who served Cenored with distinction.

He said the company is working with the relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine its cause. "Cenored remains committed to workplace safety and will take the necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future," Matengu said, while extending condolences to Ujaha's family, friends, and colleagues.
