Cenored Launches Electricity Token Identifier Upgrading Campaign in Four Regions

OTJIWARONGO — The Central North Regional Electricity Distributor (Cenored) initiated its Token Identifier (TID) upgrading campaign on Wednesday for the Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Omaheke, and Oshikoto regions. The campaign will focus on updating prepaid electricity meters in customers’ residences.

According to a new release by the Namibian Press Agency, the TID campaign involves installing new prepaid electricity meter systems in customers’ homes before November 2024. Matengu urged prepaid meter customers to cooperate with the company’s electricians. “We therefore wish to appeal to all our prepaid meter customers to cooperate with our TID electricians by granting them access to their premises so they can come in to upgrade and update your electricity prepaid meter systems,” he said.

The campaign is themed “Get your prepaid meter updated, don’t be left in the dark” and targets approximately 55,000 prepaid meters across the four regions. Matengu informed that the current electricity tokens would become non-operational worldwide on November 24, 2024, due to the expiration of their software program. The upgrading campaign is expected to conclude in July 2024.

“The software program running these electricity prepaid meters worldwide will expire on 24 November 2024. Therefore, Cenored is joining the rest of the world in updating and upgrading its electricity prepaid meters, so please take part in the project,” added Matengu.

Cenored electricians will handle the installations and upgrades. These electricians can be identified by their Cenored TID-branded vehicles, attire, and identification cards.

Matengu warned that any prepaid electricity token systems not upgraded within this timeframe would cease to function after November 24, 2024.
