Catholic Youth in Koupela Celebrate 25 Years of Faith and Commitment

Kourittenga: The youth of the Archdiocese of Koupela celebrated their silver jubilee from Saturday, March 21 to Sunday, March 22, 2026, in Koupela, marking 25 years of evangelization under the theme: 'In the joy of 25 years of thanksgiving, youth of Koupela, let us continue the mission with zeal and hope.' The celebration culminated in a thanksgiving Mass presided over by the diocesan youth chaplain, Father Nomzoodo Emille Sawadogo.

According to Burkina Information Agency, several activities punctuated Saturday, including a Stations of the Cross procession in Binatenga, a conference on Bishop Dieudonne Yougbare presented as a model of faith and perseverance, a Eucharistic celebration, a charismatic prayer session, and a panel discussion on the theme: "Can a young person live their faith and earn money?" An evening of cultural events, praise, and testimonies was also organized.

On Sunday, March 22, the faithful participated in a Mass of Thanksgiving for the 25th anniversary of the Diocesan Youth Council, followed by a fair and a blood drive to save lives. For many participants, these 25 years are a source of pride and gratitude.

"We give thanks to God for these 25 years of grace. May God grant health to all Catholic youth and to the entire world." 'I was deeply affected by the life of Bishop Dieudonne Yougbare, especially his perseverance despite the difficulties,' said Ther¨sa Koudougou.

For his part, Desire Lofo, the first diocesan president of youth in Koupela, recalled the enthusiasm of the early days. 'Twenty-five years ago, when we put out a call, between 1,000 and 2,000 young people responded. Some parishes mobilized up to 500 young people. Today, despite modern resources, mobilization is more difficult. I encourage young people to become more involved in the Church,' he stated.

The diocesan chaplain, Father Nomzoodo Emille Sawadogo, also highlighted the current challenges. 'Young people today face many challenges, particularly that of commitment. Many hesitate to give their time to Church activities. Yet, it is important to work towards success in society while remaining committed to the faith,' he urged.

To mark this silver jubilee, a collection was organized to contribute to the management of the Saint Joseph Students' Home in Koupela.
