Ioba: Catholic women of Dissihn show their solidarity with an orphanage The parish of Saint Ther¨se of the Child Jesus in Dissihn celebrated International Women's Day on Sunday through spiritual activities and a solidarity action for the benefit of the residents of the Maria Assunta orphanage.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the celebration was marked by times of discussion, reflection, prayer, and adoration, initiated by the Catholic women of the Dissihn parish. The theme for the event was "The Place of Girls and Women in Their Families, Churches, and Countries."
This three-day commemoration was sponsored by Romuald Poda, known as "Little Jesus," and Marie Cleophas Somda, president of the Dissihn Catholic Women's Alliance. The main event of the 72-hour period was a Mass celebrated by Father Zagu¨ Yanwoulou Hyppolyte Hien.
In his, the priest emphasized the crucial role of women in the family and in society. Drawing on the example of the Samaritan woman in the scriptures, Father Hien urged women to abandon certain behaviors that do not honor them, stressing that prayer should be a daily practice to enable them to demonstrate resilience in all areas of their lives.
In her speech, the ceremony's patron, Marie Cleophas Somda, stated that "women are the foundation of human life and should not be idle. Women must take on more of their role as educators in order to help restore the values and former status of Burkina Faso."
During the celebration, the parish priest, Father Samson Poda, launched a fundraising campaign to improve the food provided to the children at the Maria Assunta orphanage in Dissihn. 32,500 CFA francs were raised locally.
For the head of the religious sisters in charge of the orphanage, this gesture represents a relief in the face of the difficulties linked to the care of these deprived infants, in a context marked by insufficient resources.
The Catholic women of Dissihn wanted, through this initiative, to mark the celebration of the 39th International Women's Day in a special way.
