KOUPÉLA, KOURITTENGA — The 63rd National Council and 43rd National Meeting of the Young Catholic Students was held in Koupéla on August 27, 2024, under the leadership of Monsignor Gabriel Sayaogo, the Archbishop of the Diocese of Koupéla, along with other administrative and religious authorities. The event focused on evaluating the group’s activities over the past two years and the election of new national office members.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the gathering also included discussions on the theme “Rooted in the foundations of your movement, YEC, act, for the promotion of social cohesion and the professional integration of young people.” This panel facilitated an exchange of experiences and ideas on enhancing social cohesion and fostering unity among the youth.

Abel Kabore, the president of the Catholic Student Youth, noted the group’s satisfaction with its progress, despite some imperfections. “This week is not only about discussing our theme but also addressing various current challenges and hoping for peace in our country next year,” he stated.

Monsignor Gabriel Sayaogo praised the young participants for their efforts and emphasized the importance of using their youth and religious commitment as tools to combat discrimination and contribute to social harmony. “You represent the hope of our country, and you must use your youthful energy to promote social cohesion and unity, particularly during these difficult times,” he remarked.

Fernand Wenceslas N’do, the Secretary General of Kourittenga province and representative of the High Commissioner, encouraged openness among the participants, urging them to become ambassadors for peace in their respective communities upon returning home.

The annual meeting serves as a platform for members of the Young Catholic Students to contribute to meaningful discussions and actions that support the wellbeing and integration of young people in Burkina Faso.
