Mumbi: Catholic faithful worldwide today celebrated the Palm Sunday feast, which marks the beginning of the Holy Week leading to Easter Sunday. Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and the events ahead of His passion, death, and resurrection.
According to Kenya News Agency, at St. Joseph the Worker, Mumbi Parish, in the Catholic Diocese of Murang’a, hundreds of Christians braved a chilly morning in a procession from the town centre to the church grounds to mark the day. Carrying palm branches to recall the biblical event in which the people of Jerusalem laid palms before Christ as He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, the Christians significantly marked the day chanting, ‘Hosanna, Hosanna to the Highest.’
While delivering the homily, the Assistant Parish Priest, Fr. Stephen Kaara, observed that the days leading to Easter should be days of deep reflection. ‘This is an invitation to let off grudges, let go of the Judas spirit, and try to seek reconciliation as we make room for Christ in our hearts,’ he said. ‘Let this day be more than a tradition. Instead, let us seek to be humble like Christ while we renew our faith, reflecting on Christ’s unwavering love and mercy today and always,’ he added.
Palm Sunday is the last week of the solemn season of Lent and also the beginning of the Holy Week preceding Easter. The Holy Week ends on Holy Saturday.
